Details, Schedule and Form for the Reunion
Last Update July 26, 2008 (minor change on schedule)
George Jackson moved to Zanesville, Ohio from Clarksburg, West Virginia (then Virginia) to be a land broker on the urging of his son John George. After the American Revolutionary War, the U.S. Congress wanted to reward soldiers who had fought in the war. The Congress being short on funds awarded the veterans of the Continental Line with land warrants. Some of these warrants were on lands near Zanesvile. Many of the veterans never saw their land but sold it to land brokers like George Jackson in eastern cities, e.g., Philadelphia. George would divide up the land and resell it to individuals who wanted to settle in Ohio.
The planning of Reunion 2008 is underway by co-chairs Dan Hyde and Jane Carlile Hilder. There is much history and many interesting things to see in Zanesville. We are planning a ride on the Lorena, a sternwheeler on the Muskingum River, a drive over the only "Y-Bridge" in the world, a tour of the studios of the world class sculpture Alan Cottrill and many other activities.
Please mark your calendar for August 1-2, 2008 and plan to attend.
The Reunion is always a wonderful opportunity to meet both "new" and "old" cousins and learn (and maybe teach) something about your family's history.
Please, if you have family photos or family data to share, bring then along to display. We are also looking for items for a silent auction to defray some of the Reunion expenses. If you have any items to donate for the auction, please bring them.
