Lodging
Due to this large softball tournament, we had difficulty finding hotel rooms! However, Jane was able to reserve 20 rooms at the Econo Lodge (where Dan and Jane stayed last year) and 11 rooms at the Super 8 about 3 miles away. The rooms are all reserved for both Friday August 1st and Saturday August 2nd nights.
The rate at the Econ Lodge will be $59.99 per night, plus tax. Currently we have 9 non-smoking rooms with two double beds each, 4 non-smoking rooms with a king bed, and 7 smoking rooms with two double beds each. These are all reserved in Jane Hilder's name and also the Jackson Brigade. These rooms will only be held until June 30! Jane had to give them her credit card number to guarantee all 20 rooms. Anyone who wants to stay at the Econo Lodge will need to call by phone and reserve one of those rooms by June 30, and put it on their own credit card. This is an older two story motel near the center of town, nothing fancy, but it does have a continental breakfast, free high speed internet, free local phone calls, hair dryers and coffee makers in room, and outside corridors, no elevator. Pets are allowed in smoking rooms for a $10 charge. This motel was built 46 years ago and renovated in 2004. Photos of the motel can also be found on Hotels.com if you search under Zanesville.
The rate at the Super 8 will be $79.99 plus tax per night. All 11 of the rooms currently reserved there are non-smoking rooms with one queen bed. They did have smoking rooms available as well, that Jane did not reserve, but nothing with two beds in the room. The reservation there is also in Jane's name and that of the Jackson Brigade. They will be held for us until July 18. They did not insist on having Jane's credit card to hold the rooms, and they'll just be cancelled if not reserved by someone by that date. This motel is three story, with interior corridors, no elevators, also not fancy. There are handicapped accessible rooms available on the first floor. It offers free continental breakfast, free local phone calls, coffee makers and hair dryers in room, most guestrooms with refrigerators and microwaves, and free high speed internet access throughout. It is about 3 miles from the Econo Lodge, slightly on the west side of downtown, about two miles from the sternwheeler dock on the Muskingum River. Pets are allowed for a $10 fee.
The more upscale hotel/motels (Comfort Inn, Fairfield Inn, Hampton Inn, Ramada Inn, had no rooms whatsoever, although there did seem to be rooms available at similar places in Cambridge, which is about 30 miles east on I-70, and Newark/Heath area, which is about 30 miles west on I-70. Jane did not check with any B & B's. We would be surprised if the softball players' families are filling up B & B's. Camping is available at a number of sites including Dillon State Park, which has campsites and cabins, and Blue Rock State Park. The motels do NOT have pools, but there is swimming available at lakes in the state parks.
We highly recommend booking your rooms now!
Email or call one of us if you have questions. Also, we would be interested to know if you do make reservations in Zanesville and where you are staying.
