article about this summer's Parkersburg, WV, exhibit of Lily Irene Jackson's
artwork.
Notice that our Jackson Reunion 2004 has been upgraded from a reunion to a convention!
Saturday, August 7: We'll meet at the community building in Jackson Park, Vienna (See map) (adjacent to Parkersburg) for reunion registration, mingling and a coffee-and-donut breakfast. Professor Bernard L. Allen, formerly of West Virginia University-Parkersburg, will deliver a brief talk on the Parkersburg Jacksons and their role in early local gas and oil development. Following breakfast, we'll depart on a tour of historic family-related sites in Parkersburg, which will include a re-dedication ceremony for the James M. Jackson bust/fountain in courthouse square, a guided tour of Riverview Cemetery, a visit to Jackson Fountain in City Park, and--we hope--a couple of additional spots. We have the community building rented for the whole day, and folks will be welcome to have lunch there and chat, but many may wish to further explore the Parkersburg area singly or in groups.
For those interested in history, we recommend:
For those who feel they've already had enough history for one day, there are several alternatives:
Sunday, August 9: We will depart from Point Park, Parkersburg, aboard an Ohio River sternwheeler for a picnic on nearby Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park (See map). The picnic will include a talk on local history by Dr. Ray Swick of the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History, our business meeting and memorial service.
We're also looking for volunteers!
Thanks,
Ann Fissel and John M. Jackson
