A queueing system is often noted by A/B/c/N/K where
- A:
- interarrival time distribution
- B:
- service time distribution
- c:
- number of parallel servers
- N:
- queueing capacity
- K:
- size of the calling population
A few notes:
- A few special notations: M for exponential distribution, G
for general distribution, D for constant.
- When the queueing capacity or the calling population size, or
both are infinite, they can be omitted from the notation, e.g. M/M/1
meaning expoential distribution for arrival and service time with one
server, the queueing capacity and the calling population size are both
infinite.
