Faculty Governance Faculty Council |
(II.F.5) If a committee member is unable to serve because of leave or temporary absence during his/her term, the Faculty Council shall appoint a faculty member to serve temporarily. If a faculty member is unable to complete a term by virtue of resignation or for any other cause, the Faculty Council shall appoint a replacement to serve until the time of the next election, at which time an election shall be held for the unexpired term.
Note: Relevant to this charge is the Post-Hiring Affirmative Action Plan, adopted by the faculty in April 1991, which states that "The current situation ... will be improved if those forming committee slates consider distribution of representation across standing committees and major appointed or ad hoc elected committees, including both the number/terms of afffirmative action representation on different committees. Individuals who are invited to serve or stand for election will be told the other members and/or slate for the committee. Whenever possible, they also will be informed of alternative comittee openings in which they might be interested. Such information will prevent affirmative action individuals from turning down a higher priority activity because of a previous acceptance or accepting both in order to perform the higher priority activity."
