Faculty Governance
Ad Hoc Committee to Compose Charge to New Standing Committee on
Athletics
History
The ad hoc Committee to Review Faculty
Governance began work in September 2004, and presented a
report to the faculty at the
February meeting of the Faculty. The issues raised in the report were
discussed in an Open Forum on Governance held February 14.
(See the
Minutes of the Open Forum for details.)
Specific motions arising from the report and discussion were brought to
the Faculty in the spring of 2005. In the April 2005 meeting the
faculty endorsed the review committee's suggestion that "the Committee
on Athletics should be made a standing University committee, with
elected faculty and student membership, and with authority
to oversee matters of athletic and recreational policy."
The review committee suggested that the
Faculty Council oversee the process of ameding the Faculty Handbook
to include the new committee. The Faculty Council will be appointing
an ad hoc committee to develop the charge and composition of the
committee. The proposed charge and compositions will be brought to the
faculty at the November 2005 faculty meeting.
