Biography by Lester
LeMay:
" Samuel grew up
in mountainous frontier land where danger from hostile Indians was forever
present. His occupation farming,
his avocation hunting. He was evidently a man of much strength, for one early
account (Cutright, p. 360) tells how he carried his brother-in-law Philip Reger
over his shoulder for some miles in the wilderness when Reger was bitten by a
rattlesnake. He also included
their rifles and even the snake in his pack! For a mountain remedy for
snakebite was to cut open the snake and apply it to the wound. the remedy
failed and another was tried, but Reger recovered to recount the strength and
endurance of Samuel Jackson and his 8 mile walk.
By 1810 we find
Samuel and his family in Wood County, Virginia with a family of 2 girls and 5
boys but Cutright on page 329 lists a land grant in Randolph County on Pecks
Run adjoining the lands of George Jackson, Esq., and John Reager on November
25, 1800. In 1817 Samuel and
Barbara sold 309 of the original 400 acres to Isaac Wamsley.
In 1818 however the
family settled in Section 33 of Franklin Township in the newly formed Owen
County, Indiana. The 1820 census lists a Samuel Jackson with three sons and a
daughter but the wife is missing. Samuel was appointed Superintendent of road
building for Section 16 south to Greene County in 1819. (Blanchard). The 1905
Report of the State Geologist, p. 889 says, 'At Jackson's Bluff, southwest
quarter Section 33 (9N, 4W), between Freedom and Farmers, the upper Huron
limestone is exposed 18 feet in thickness.' Could Samuel have been appointed
road Superintendent because his land contained the best material?
In 1822 the town of
Spencer was formed and lots were sold at an open bidding session for which the
county appropriated $9.87 1/2 for whiskey -- an appropriate beverage to loosen
the bids of the audience! Samuel
Jackson bought lot #169 for $50.
Samuel and Barbara's
children were all most likely born in Virginia. [names the children]. They
probably all married in Indiana [gives marriages].
Samuel and his sons
established the Jackson ferry across the White River near Vilas in 1823. In
1979 it was still in use as a farm ferry. Jacks Creek in nearby Greene County
was named for Henry Jackson (Baber).
In 1825 Samuel bought
land in Vigo County from the estate of Truman Blackman. Here in Harrison Township,
northeast of Terre Haute, Samuel and Barbara remained until their deaths --
Barbara in 1838 and Samuel in 1842. A cemetery on this property contains the
gravestones of Samuel's son Jacob and his wife Mary, and also Louisa, wife of
John R., and his daughter Louisa, both who died on June 11, 1831.
The children
scattered. Isaac migrated to Jasper County, Missouri where he died in 1852.
Henry stayed in Owen County where he died in 1865. Mary Brake likely remained
in Vigo County. Her death date has not yet been found. John R. Jackson died ca
1854-55 in Muscatine County, Iowa but also had property in Champaign County,
Illinois at the time of his death.
Joel died 1843 in Newton County, Missouri and Jacob died 1876 on the
home place in Vigo County, Indiana."

Jackson Cemetery, Terre Haute, Indiana
In 1974, as part of
her studies at Indiana State University, Tamara Chaney became interested in a
pioneer cemetery in Terre Haute which was established around 1830. Located on Maple Avenue, north of
Fruitridge, east of the old Tumpane picnic grounds was the Old Jackson
Cemetery. [Tribune-Star, Terre Haute, Indiana, July 21, 1974, Foulkes].
"Cemetery
Commission Adds Data to Old Vigo Burials" by Dorothy Clark, Tribune
Woman's Editor.
Cemeteries were
established in Vigo County as early as 1811 (at Fort Harrison), but it was not
until the 1930's that a major effort was made to record the locations of all
these pioneer graveyards.
The Fort Harrison
Chapter DAR members and the late A. R. Markle took on the job of copying
tombstone inscriptions and mapping out the locations and legal descriptions of
the old burials. The completed work was compiled into a volume placed in the
public and historical society libraries.
The Vigo County
Cemetery Commission has been slowly adding to the information gathered forty
years ago, and several changes and additions have been made.
In 1959, information
came from Mrs. Raymond H. (Sandra) Johnston about a cemetery located directly
east of the former Tumpane picnic grounds on land behind the Johnston's home in
dense woods. She had spotted a large fence with the gate inscribed
"Jackson Cemetery - 1870". She believed the marked graves outside the
fence were not member of the Jackson family.
Just recently, an ISU
student majoring in history, Miss Tamara Chaney, became interested in the old
graveyard in the northeastern section of Harrison township, and carefully
copied all tombstone inscriptions in the Jackson cemetery.
She researched the
land records and abstract for the property and found that Samuel Jackson deeded
the land involved to Jacob Jackson in 1830. The administrators of Samuel's estate
in 1842 were Jacob, John R. and Henry Jackson.
The earliest burial
that was still marked with a tombstone was that of Louisa, wife of J. R.
Jackson, who died June 11, 1831, age 31 yeas. Their three month old daughter
was buried with the mother.
The large Jackson
monument marks the graves of Jacob Jackson and his wife Mary (both were born in
1809, died in 1876 at age 67 years) and their six children recorded as Barbara
A. 1832, aged 2 months, L. Emeline, 1834-1851, age 18 years;, Mary C. 1837-1852,
aged 15 years; L. D. 1839-1872, age 33 years; Jacob R. 1841-1870, age 29 years
and Addie 1845-1852, aged 7 years.
When Jacob died in
1876, his heirs were Caroline Preston, wife of Irving V. Preston; Emeline
Armstrong, wife of William P., and Jacob Jackson, a minor child.
The relationship to
the Jackson family, if any, remains unknown of Andrew Keys whose tombstone
tells of his death in 1863, age 28, "in the service of his country."
Contemporaries of the
Jackson children were William Henderson whose stone is inscribed: "Died
Nov. 1, 1870, age 39 years. Beloved husband thou hast left me, But 'tis God
that hast bereft us, He all our sorrows can heal," and Oren Henderson who
died Sept. 1841, age 13 years.
Their relationship, if any, to the Jackson clan is also unknown.
One stone has only
one legible name "Rebecca" while another footstone has initials
"J. W. N.". Tow stones
are broken off with their inscriptions completely weathered away.

The Stone House
written by Eula Smith
Ò Henry Jackson was a
Franklin Township pioneer. By
about 1849 he was ready to move from the original log cabin in Section 33 into
a new stone house on the east side of White River just north of the Greene
county line...
In the 1850 census
his household included wife Nancy and three children: Samuel, Barbara and
Theresa. Three other children were
young adults: Artemisha, Elizabeth and Andrew.
By 1860 Theresa
Jackson had married Albert Dyer but had returned home with their son Henry.
Artemisha Jackson married
Richard Howard Gentry. After his
death she lived in the stone house.
On December 29, 1889,
David Harrah married Amannda Dyer, grand daughter of Henry Jackson and they
started housekeeping in the stone house.
However, they soon moved to California.
CecilGentry, daughter
of Millard Fillmore "Dick" Gentry and Minerva (Light) Gentry, was
born in the stone house in December of 1892. Cecil's grandfather, Ellis Gentry,
was a brother of Artemisha's husband.
Mom said, "Nerva
Light Gentry managed the ferry on White River near out land. I think that was when she was a
girl." [ submitted by Wayne Jackson, Houston, Texas]

William Cooley:
" Among the
early settlers of Jasper County, Missouri, who came with his little family to
this locality in 1839, was Samuel M. Cooley, who was born in Pennsylvania, but
who became a resident of Indiana when a young man. There he married the
daughter of neighbor, Margaret Rusk by name, and a few years later she accompanied
him to the new home. Her death occurred when she was about forty years of age,
and her husband survived her for several years. He located near Smithfield, in
Twin Grove township, taking up government land. At that early day the county was not yet laid out, and
Samuel M. Cooley was one of those selected to assist in the laying out of the
townships. In all of the matters pertaining to the progress and advancement of
the county and the township his clear judgment and sensible ideas were of great
value. In that pioneer home he and wife reared a family of ten children, eight
of whom grew to maturity and three of whom still survive.
William C. Cooley,
the subject of this review, was born in Montgomery County, Indiana, June 31,
1835, and was about four years of age when his parents came to make their home
in the wild districts of Jasper County.
One of the first buildings erected by these early settlers was the
school-house, and in one of these primitive log cabins, where the benches were
made of split logs and the huge fireplace extended across one whole side, our
subject acquired his education. At the age of fourteen years he was left an
orphan, and from that time he was the arbiter of his own fortunes. Reared to toil, he soon became an
acceptable assistant on neighboring farms, receiving for his first labor the
sum of seven dollars a month, and until he was nineteen years old he was only
able to make fifteen dollars a month.
In 1860 Mr. Cooley
was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Jackson, who was born in Jasper County,
Missouri, and had been his playmate and companion from childhood. her family
was also one of the pioneer ones in the county. Five children were born of this
marriage: Alfred and Walter died in infancy; Alice is the wife of John Manlove,
and they reside on Mr. Cooley's farm; Isabel is the wife of H. L. Byran, and
they live on part of the farm; and William also farms on a portion of the home
land. All of their children are conveniently located near their father. Mr. Cooley lost his wife twenty years
ago.
In 1860, after his
marriage, mr. Cooley settled in Twin Grove township, but when the war troubles
arose the next year the family removed to Fort Scott, Kansas. Seven times they
went back to the old home, but political feeling was so high at that time that
they did not remain there until the eighth return. Mr. Cooley has been located
on his present farm for about sixteen years, and owns five hundred acres of
fine land, some of which is rich in mineral deposit and has been found to
produce fine ore.
Mr. Cooley has always
been a Democrat in his political convictions, and his served the township as
collector. He will always support
the party while at advocated free coinage of silver. He is one of the most respected citizens of Jasper County,
and has witnessed and taken part in the wonderful development which sixty years
have produced in this locality. He has recently traveled through Kansas, New
Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and Colorado, but says he saw
no country to compare with Jasper county, Missouri, and returned entirely
contented to make his home here. "

During a severe

money. We can't eat money. Send us
something to eat." Joel E. sent a train car full of corn to the end of the
railroad. Henry Clay and his neighbors went there and hauled the corn home in
wagons. Henry Clay shared with
everyone and wouldn't take any pay for the corn. The next time the corn crop
made, Henry Clay had his barns full of returned corn. (Lantz/Andrews).

Silas A. Stuckey
"On the roster of
county officials in Jasper County appears the name of Silas A. Stuckey and no
higher testimonial of his faithful and efficient service can be given than a
statement of the fact that he has been reelected for a second term of four
years so that his incumbency will continue until 1903. He was born in Bedford,
Pennsylvania, December 16, 1850, a son of Richard S. and Martha J. (McVictor)
Stuckey, both of whom were also natives of Bedford. The father was a farmer by
occupation, and his father was one of the pioneer settlers of Bedford. He
became very prominent in military circles there and was known as Major Stuckey,
being for a long period connected with the militia of Pennsylvania with
official rank. he married a Miss Silvers, of Pennsylvania, whose ancestors came
to this country with the Penn colony. After engaging in the cultivation of his
farm in Pennsylvania for a number of years Richard S. Stuckey brought his
family to the Mississippi valley, locating in Knox county, Illinois, where he
resided until 1867, at which time he came to Jasper county, Missouri, settling
near Twin Grove upon a new farm. He improved the land, transforming it into
richly cultivated fields, and upon that place both he and his wife spent their
remaining days.
Silas A. Stuckey was
only two years of age when his parents went to Illinois, where he was reared
until his sixteenth year. He began his education in the common schools, later
attended a high school and then supplemented that course by study in a normal
school. After coming to Jasper
county he pursued a four-months course of study, and for seven years engage in
teaching through the winter months, proving a capable educator. On expiration
of that period he embarked in business, engaging in merchandising. After four years, however, he abandoned
commercial pursuits to engage in zinc and lead mining, which he has followed
successfully in the vicinity of Joplin. He is at present financially interested
in the Duenweg mine and also the Lehigh mine, both in Jasper county. Mining has
become one of the leading industries of this portion of the state, and the
development of the rich mineral resources of southwester Missouri contributes
not alone to the individual prosperity of the stockholders but also to the
general success and welfare. Mr.
Stuckey also aided in organizing the Carl Junction Bank, and was its firs
vice-president, but after a time disposed of his stock in the enterprise.
On Christmas day of
1873 Mr. Stuckey was married to Miss Sarah J. Jackson, a daughter of Joel
Jackson, a prominent pioneer settler who located in Jasper county in 1840. Five
children, now living, have been born unto Mr. and Mrs. Stuckey: Pearl, Mary
Josephine, Anna fern, Georgia Gertrude and Eugenia; and three, David Perry,
Artemus Jackson and Lena, died in infancy.; and the first names is now
assisting her father in the office. In his political vies Mr. Stuckey is a
staunch Republican, and takes an active interest in party work. In 1894 he was
the nominee for the position of county clerk, and after being elected and
serving for four years he was again chosen to the office by popular ballot, so
that he is now serving for the second term. he is a man of strong purpose, of
decided views and of unquestioned integrity, and his upright life has not only
been crowned by business success but has also gained for him the unqualified
respect and confidence of his fellow men. " (Biographical Record of Jasper County, Missouri, by Hon. Malcolm G. McGregor, 1901, p.
103-105- includes his picture.)

LeMay: Photo of Joel
and Sarah included in issue (Jackson Scrapbook, 1982)
"Joel, first son
of Samuel and Sarah Laffoon Jackson was born in their home in Franklin
Township, Owen County, Indiana. He
was living in an area his grandfather had settled and helped wrest from the
wilderness 35 years before. In 1852, the year before Joel was born, Franklin
Township was one of the more prosperous ones of Owen County with 163 polls and
a valuation of lands at $77,576. Joel born 8 January 1853 grew up in a farming
community where public schools were only run three months a year. The first one
had begun in 1840. As a result,
Joel obtained only about the equivalent of a 4th or 5th grade education.
Joel grew up in the
heated politics of a nation headed for division. Whigs, Democrats and the new
Republicans vied for the people's political affections. After Lincoln was elected in 1860 and
the Civil War began, Joel's father Samuel enlisted in the Union army in 1864.
Joel was just 11 and had to help care for his 5 younger brothers and sisters.
Samuel was discharged at Nashville 27 Sept 1865 and came home to an area
suffering under the strain of depressed prices and unemployment. Sam and Sarah
comforted themselves in each other and their last child, Cara, born 4 Dec. 1867.
In 1869 the
government offered Osage Indian lands in Kansas for settlement and purchase and
Samuel and his young family decided to go with two of Sarah's uncles Joseph and
Jacob McIntosh to make a new beginning in Kansas plains country.
Samuel entered 160
acres of Osage lands about 15 miles from Cheopta, Labette County (NW1/4
Section12-T34S R19E) in 1869. (map included)
Kansas was not kind
to the new settlers. Sarah's
uncle, Joseph McIntosh, died of pneumonia before 17 June 1879 and was buried in
Ellis cemetery 1/2 mile south of Samuel's land. Cara also died in 1870, a child of two. The worst blow came
7 February when Sarah herself died and Samuel was left with Joel 19, Nancy age
17, Mary 15, George almost 15 and Henry 11 to care for and raise.
Within the next four
years, Nancy had married Andrew Pickett, Mary Theresa (known as Mollie) had
married Samuel Newell, Joel had married Elvira Lillibridge, (Ella in the other
account) and probably Samuel had
returned to Owen County, Indiana, for in 1878 there he married Mary Ann (Moore)
Bryant, a widow with seven children. Freedom, Indiana was the elder Jacksons'
home for the rest of their days.
A close eight of the
Jacksons in Labette County was Charles Lillibridge. (son of Willard Stephens
Lillibridge and Betsey S. Collins). His widowed mother with her children at
home, Jerome and Elvira, lived not far away. Elvira was four years older than Joel, but when they married
at Oswego, Kansas 6 November 1875 both listed "age 22" on the
license. Perhaps Joel didn't know
then that he was marrying "an older woman".
In 1876 a daughter
Evelyn was born and in February 1880 a son, Gale Clifford, but eh young mother
died 11 October 1881 leaving her heartbroken Joel with two babies to care for.
In 1883 Evelyn died. Joel had had
enough. He asked a family by the name of Rinker (Rankin in the other account)
to care for his two-year old son and he left for Golden, Colorado to start a
new life.
It is said that Joel
got a job in Golden driving for a brewery because he didn't drink. (Could this
ave been Coors, the now famous Golden, Colorado brewery?)
Joel also worked for
several Cattle companies and in 1888 he had homesteaded near Henry, Nebraska
near Scottsbluff.
The Calvin Russell
family lived near Joel. He had almost stuck Calvin with a pitchfork once when
the old man had taken refuge in a haystack, but after that mishap, they had
become good friends and young Rosa, though 17 years his junior, had attracted
Joel's eye. Rosa's mother died in
1896 after a stroke had debilitated her years before. On December 23rd 1896,
despite a winter storm, Joel and Rosa married (see clipping)
Joel and Rosa's
second family was born in the next six years: Esther in 1897, Agnes 1898 (but
died after two days, premature because of the measles.), Elvin in 1900, and Sam
in 1902. Their ranch was crossed by the famed Oregon Trail as it crossed into
Wyoming. Travellers were often provided hospitality, and warmth pervaded their
home. Rosa's father made his home
with them till his death in 1917. Joel's father Samuel had died in Indiana 18
August 1905.
The winters in
Nebraska were hard and cold. As early as 1907 Joel's brother-in-law, Henry
Russell suggested he move to the warm southwest for his rheumatism. By November
1918, they had decided to make the move. They went by way of west Texas so Joel
could visit his brother Wesley whom he had not seen for 40 years. Rosa and
Esther went by train, but Joel and his sons fixed up the car with an adjoining
tent and camped along the way. As they by passed some of the towns they saw
coffins stacked awaiting burial of flu victims.
At the border between
Wyoming (a wet state, liquor-wise) and Colorado which was dry, an inspector
stopped them to see if they were carrying any liquor. Joel said, 'No, except
for a little bit to use if we get the flu.' But the inspector spied a gallon
jug of motor oil they had and insisted on trying it.!
When they camped out
near Colorado Springs, they heard the town explode with bells and whistles. It
was the armistice of World War I. Elvin was particularly happy for he had
passed his physical and was expecting to be called up for service any time.
Rosa's photo album is
full of pictures of the cousins they met in Texas, for Wes had the largest of
the Jackson families.
The Jacksons traveled
on to Mesa, Arizona, where Rosa bought 20 acres on 10 March 1919 from the D. A.
Rust's. A copy of the deed reveals that C. H. Russell, Rosa's brother was the
Notary. In the summer, Joel, Rosa and Sam went back to Nebraska to sell the
ranch, while Esther went to California to work for the Newells and Elvin stayed
to farm cotton. But the next year, when Joel stayed the summer, he wasn't so
pleased with the heat and he sold the land (for a profit) and bought 60 acres
of grazing land in Chino Valley, about 100 miles north.
While they were in
Chino Valley, Elvin and Esther both married. In 1827 Elvin married Rivers
Copeland, daughter of a Wickenburg physician, and in 1929 Esther married James
Autie LeMay, a Santa Fe Railroad clerk.
About 1920 Joel wrote
to his son Sam: 'Just a line to let you know I am thinking of you, more so when
we hear of storms up Prescott and vicinity. I often wondered where you were
when trouble on the lines comes. Well, be careful of yourself and conserve your
earning for times are not getting better fast.'
Sam worked as a
lineman for the Arizona Power Company, and Joel's worst fears were fulfilled 22
August 1932 when in a freak accident Sam came in contact with a hot line and
was electrocuted. He was engaged
to Flo Moyer who grieved deeply his tragic end.
In 1933 the Jacksons
visited in California, Oregon, and Nebraska but letters reveal that Joel was
not feeling well the last part of the trip. Joel died of a stomach upset 15
March 1934, age 81.
Rosa stayed on in her
now urban home, sharing it with her brother Lawrence who had been divorced from
his wife, and her bachelor brother-in-law Henry Jackson. Henry died in 1938 and
was buried in Green lawn Cemetery in Phoenix next to Joel and Sam. Rosa was visiting Ester in Prescott
when on 15 July 1946 she died of heart failure caused by water on the lungs. I
remember rubbing her back the night before she died to ease her suffering. It
was Rosa who kept letters, clippings and was herself highly interested in the
family tree whose storehouse of materials help me write this with some fullness.
Such is the history
of Joel Jackson. If all the
readers of the Scrapbook will help, I hope to write a similar summary of each
of the other children of Samuel and Sarah Laffoon Jackson and also provide what
biographical information I can on other descendants and lines of interest. I
want to illustrate with pictures, letters and clippings. To disseminate such
sources is to preserve for posterity!

We briefly noted the
death of Joel Jackson last week as having occurred at Phoenix, Arizona on the
15th of this month. We have
received the following more detailed facts relative to his life which we are
glad to publish because of the splendid standing acquired in this valley by Mr.
Jackson during his long years of residence here. He was widely known and held in utmost respect by all who
knew him. Mr. Jackson visited in the valley just summer and many old friends
who then met him again did not realize that he was in a serious state of
health. Live trouble was the cause of his final illness which did not become
critical until the last few months before he was finally claimed by death.
Joel Jackson was born
in Freedom, Indiana on January 8, 1853, and departed this life on March 15,
1934, thus being age 81 years 2 months, 7 days. He removed with his parents in early youth to Kansas. In
1875 he married Ella Lillibridge, who passed away four years later. To this
union were born two children, a boy and a girl, the latter passing away in
childhood. In 1883 he went to Golden,
Colo. where he was employed for several years until he came to this section of
Western Nebraska in 1888. He filed and proved up on a preemption claim near the
present site of Morrill, after which he removed to the south side of the river,
homesteading south of Henry, where the family lived for about twenty-five
years. On December 23, 1896, he married Miss Rosa E. Russel, daughter of Calvin
W. Russell, and to this union four children were born, a daughter passing away
in infancy, and Sam, the youngest son, about one year ago.
In 1918, the family
removed to Arizona, spending ten years in the Little Chino Valley, then
removing again to a small tract adjacent to the city of Phoenix, which was the
family home at the time of his death. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Christian
church at Prescott, Arizona.
His death is ___ by
his widow, one son, Elwin R. Jackson, Phoenix, and one daughter, Mrs. J. A.
Lemay, William, Ariz.Ó

ÒA Quiet Wedding
On Wednesday December
23rd, Mr. Joel Jackson and Miss Rosa Russell, both of Caldwell were united in
marriage at the home of O. O. McHenry, Elder J. W. Hill performing the
ceremony. It was a quiet wedding, only a few close friends being invited. A
brother of the bride, Lawrence Russell, was best man, and Miss Lucy McHenry was
bridesmaid. The bride was becomingly gowned in wine color trimmed with cream
satin lace. The ceremony over and greetings ended, all repaired to the dinging
room to partake of the supper in readiness for them. They were the recipients
of beautiful and appropriate gifts. Mr. Jackson was one of the early
inhabitants of this country, having been engaged with several of the leading
cattle companies doing business in the west. He is now in the employ of the
Guthrie stock company. The bride is the estimable daughter of C. W. Russell,
they will go to Guthrie, Wyoming, where his business demands his attention, but
later they will return to his home in this county near the Wyoming line -
Homestead, Gering, Nebraska.
The bride is a sister
of Mrs. Fremont Peckham. She lived here over a year seven years ago and has
many friends in this vicinity.Ó

Ò Funeral services for Sam
Jackson, thirty-year -old Arizona Power company lineman, electrocuted at Poland
Junction yesterday, are to be conducted at two o'clock Thursday afternoon in
the Lester Ruffner chapel, it was announced today.
Burial is to follow
in Phoenix, the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joel Jackson.
Jackson had hold of a
guy wire when is came in contact with a 44,000 volt line. Death practically was
instantaneous because his heart action was stopped immediately and could not be
stimulated again through artificial resuscitation was attempted for an hour or
more by his co-workers on the job.
He was born August
11, 1902, in Caldwell, Nebr. about seven years ago obtained his first employment
with the power company "on the rim" as employee call it, meaning in
one of the Verde Valley hydro plants. His mother was in Prescott when the
accident happened. A sister, Mrs. J. E. LeMay of 614 Lincoln Avenue, with whom
Jackson had been residing, was preparing to move to Winslow today, where her
husband has been transferred by the Santa Fe. Jackson, therefore was getting ready to move his lodging to
the home of Dr. ____M. Tolle.
Friends said Jackson and Miss Flo Moyer, Prescott public school teacher,
were engaged to be married toward the end of the year.Ó
Yesterday's
electrocution was the first time since 1825 when two employees in the Childs
hydro plant died from the cause. Jackson was the twelfth or fourteenth person
electrocuted in the Arizona Power system since it started toward the close of
the last century.
Elvin R. Jackson, a
brother, living in Phoenix, was in Prescott today making the funeral
arrangements.
