Culvetson HESTER “HETTA” TAYLOR b. 1799/1800 Westmoreland Co., PA; d. 21 Jul 1852 Weston, Lewis Co., (W)V; First buried at Arnold Hill and then moved to  Machpelah Cemetery in Weston.  Hester was referred to as “Hettie Pettie”.  She was blood relative of Zack Taylor. George was a Capt in War 1812; 19th Reg. US Infantry, promoted by President Madison.  Family settled in McConnelsville, OH shortly after George retired from US Army at the close of War of 1812 (Cook)

(a)   Jonathan  McCauley  b. 28 Oct 1910; d. 24 Nov 1982 Morgantown, WV at his residence :Imperial Woods”. Bur. Masonic Cem. Weston, WV: Grad of the Love Field Flight School, Dallas, TX; empl. 30 years by WVU as flight instructor and then as manager of the aviation department. m. Gladys Methany b. 1919;  tombstone for her at Masonic Cemetery in Weston.

Vicki was a lab tech for Dr. J. B. Wilfong, orthodontist, Pres of Women’s Golf Assoc. of Clarksburg Country Club; member of the 1979 team which won State Championship.

2.      James Taylor Jackson b. 1829 McConnelsville, OH; d.1901 m. 1853 Phoebe Ann Wilson b. 13 Jan. 1829 Clarksburg, WV (obit); d. 1882,Newark, OH: d/o Col. J. D. Wilson: 4 sons/2 dau.  Was a handsome man. Had store on west side of Weston’s main street in 2 story house, later location of Wm. L. Demington’s, later Kaplan’s.  Moved to Newark, OH. After her death James T. moved to Detroit, MI and married again.

1)      Mary Turner m. Gordon McCoy/McCoyan; res.. Murphreesboro, TN; had 3 sons; one employed at the Library of Congress.  Gordon served WWI/engineer.

(Note: According to Betty and Randy Nicholson [nicholson@neumedia.net]he was the son of Martha Peterson Hawkins (Betty’s gggrandmother). I have a deed which indicates that Gibson J. Butcher deeded land to Thomas and Martha Hawkins(his mother) for their lifetime.  Martha appears to have had two sons, Gibson J. and M.L. Butcher prior to her marriage to Thomas Hawkins

Bk:3:30) Corneleus “Neil” P. Hurley.  Speculated in Lewis County Wild Lands, owned 700 acres on Hacker’s Camp Run, Collins Dist – later J. M. Bennetts. Confederate Soldier; Lived in Weston several years; moved to Texas, was merchant in Brenham, TX.  Committed suicide there on account of losses in cotton speculation shortly before 15 May 1871.  (Obit: reprint: Weston Democrat 16 Dec 1987)

(Roy Bird Cook) Alfred became the highest ranking officer in the confederate army.  Co I 31 Virginia Infantry; Enrolled 2 Jun 1861, age 25; Cpt. Appointed Adj. General on T. J. Jackson’s staff 12 Noc, 1861; Battle of Greenbrier, McDowell; 9 Aug 1862 severely wounded at battle of Cedar Mountain. Shortly before his death made Brigadier General.

Andrew has 6 terms in Congress. Officer WWI cited for “extraordinary heroism on the night of Aug. 1st and 2nd as a result of which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross in 1923.  Was 1st Commander of Weston Post 4 American Legion
