Scott Meets Wynton Marsalis
April 19, 2002
By His Father Dan Hyde
Friday April 19, 2002, the Hyde family attended a Jazz concert at the
Weis Performing Arts Center on Bucknell University's campus. The
Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis as Musical Director
gave an excellent two hour concert. The fifteen person Lincoln Center Jazz
Orchestra is considered the best Jazz Orchestra in the world.
Wynton
Marsalis played as one of the four trumpeters but also played several
solos on his trumpet. He was superb! In fact, all the performers were
top notch and
very talented.
We had arranged before hand to try to see Wynton Marsalis back stage
after the concert. We were told sometimes Wynton will ask a young
performer to play for him and for Scott to bring his trumpet.
Scott looked forward to the night for MONTHS! AND he was not disappointed!

After the Concert, Dan, Mary Jane and Scott went backstage to meet
Wynton Marsalis. Scott gets to shake hands with him.

for Wynton Marsalis
After we meet Wynton Marsalis, he says to Scotty "I see you brought
your Horn!"
He invites us to his dressing room where he gives Scotty a mini
trumpet lesson.
Proud Mom and Dad are the only people in the dressing room besides
Scott and Wynton.
At one point, Wynton puts his mouth piece in
Scott's trumpet and plays on Scott's trumpet. Scott will never wash
it again! :^)
