June 28, 2002 Stratford-Upon-Avon - William Shakespeare Country
Our day begins with a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's
town. We're in Stratford-upon-Avon early in the morning, before the
tourist crowds arrivew. Dan takes photos of a statue of a jester
(with quotations from Shakespeare's plays about jesters on the base)
and of Jan, Scotty and me in front of William Shakespeare's
birthplace and in front of some shops.
I spot "As You Like It," a little coffee shop, so
Jan and I dip into the shop for a "take-away" (British phrase for
"take-out") coffee to share as we brouse. In a little shop, we buy
a red collector-model "Smart Car" for Scotty. and a white tee top
with "Mind the Gap" (famous warning about the gap between the train
and platform on "Tube" stops) on the front
for Dan. Jan buys me and herself navy blue tee tops with the
British flags (Union Jack and the red-and-white soccer flag) design.
