New: Check out the new homepage of Physics for Humanties and Social Sciences, a course that we promise will be exciting, informative and useful! You will learn what physics is about, why it's so useful, and get some hands on experience in fun workshops!
Current: I'm currently teaching four recitation sections for PH203: General Physics I. Please check here for information related to this.
Summer 2012: I was the instructor for a Introductory Mechanics at the Abington College of Pennsylvania State University. I based the class on investigative methods developed by Eugenia Etkina and others, suitably modified to fit the constraints and level of the class. The syllabus for this class and associated lecture notes and problems sets can be found here.
NYAS Education fellow: Another interesting teaching experience I had was with middle school students. I was a mentor for the NYAS Afterschool Mentoring Program and worked with the NGO Citizen Schools to run an apprenticeship at the L. A. Spencer school in Newark, NJ. The apprenticeship involved teaching "space science" to middle school students (grades 6-8). We called it "Up, up and away!". A broad curriculum was supplied, but it required a fair bit of reworking to be applicable to the students I was teaching. We decided to make the classes heavily activity based. The apprenticeship ended up revolving around learning about stars and galaxies, building telescopes, spetroscopes, learning about light, and so on. It was a very enriching experience to teach in an underprivileged school and have a first hand experience of the kinds of issues faced by these students.
